May 1st – May 16th – Women & Families
Altagracia Vazquez and Petronila del Solis, two women that have been greatly impacted
by the Women and Families component of Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners
visited Wisconsin to share their stories. Petronila participates in the Chica Nica Doll Dress project (see photos) and Altagracia is involved in a cooperative of women that makes and sells beautiful pine needle baskets. Both are extremely resourceful and it will be a great pleasure to have them here demonstrating their techniques and sharing how their lives have been impacted through projects such as these.

Wisconsin and Nicaragua women play a vital role in the economic and social well-being of their respective communities and assume major responsibility for the health, nutrition, and welfare of their families. Empowering women as economic contributors, natural resources managers, food producers, caregivers, educators, community
leaders, political actors, and mothers ensures a greater impact on family, community, and national well-being.
Community education is more than the act of teaching people practical skills. It is a process of bringing citizens together to solve local problems. Partners' belief is that no development project can be successful without the active involvement of citizens in the shaping of their own futures.
The Learning Centers are part of the Women & Families component of Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners of the Americas, Inc. and ensure that women are fully integrated - both as practitioners and beneficiaries - in all aspects of partnership work.
