Golf In The Zone
On July 26, the
Appleton/Chinandega Partners sponsored a golf outing at the Winagamie Golf Club between Appleton and Neenah. Thirty-six golfers were treated to a beautiful day, good food, and loads of fun. There was also a prize raffle that raised
over $1,000 for W/NP. The event proved itself as a great way to increase awareness of W/NP while raising funds for projects in Nicaragua. Thank you to all who helped this event succeed; it will now be held annually.
Free Alongside Ship
The remainder of our shipment of 226 Gaylord boxes arrived on July 28 in Nicaragua. We are deeply indebted to all who went the extra mile to coordinate this remarkable and exceptional event!
The Smoke From A Distant Fire
On August 02, Capt. Juan Vallecillo and Cesar Guevara, two firemen from Nicaragua, arrived for a full week in Wisconsin as part of W/NP's 2006 initiatives with the Wisconsin National Guard. If you would like to meet them and give them a warm Wisconsin welcome,
Contact W/NP for a copy of their schedules.
King Kong Chair
In June, the
Stevens Point/Estelí Partners received a request from a couple in great need of two wheelchairs for their children who suffer from a rare bone disease. After
contacting the Madison Wheelchair Recycling Project, it was discovered that MWRP had two available wheelchairs in the Matagalpa area, which a W/NP volunteer happened to be traveling through. It was a collaborative effort that involved many people in a short amount of time, illustrating action upon identified needs.
Take Me To Your Library
"Presently, we have forty kids who come every Saturday to read. Afterwards, they take two books home which they return the following Saturday. They're very punctual. There are Saturdays when we're left without any books; we can't keep up," writes Rosa, who is coordinating W/NP's first Lending Library at the Learning Center in Tipitapa.
This demand is leading to the start of our second lending library on August 17. If you have funds for this project or Spanish books to donate, please let us know within the next week so that we can hand-carry them down for the grand opening.
State Of Independence
Nicaragua Unida cordially invites you to join in celebrating Nicaragua's independence, its patriotism and pride, and its people's culture and traditions. Festivities will include folkloric and Palo de Mayo dances, music, and Nicaraguan foods. The celebration will begin at 03:00 p.m. and continue until 08:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 17 at the Vilas Park Shelter, located at 1400 Vilas Park Drive in Madison. If you have any questions, please call Maria Post at 608.219.8136 or Ruben Tijerino at 608.446.6957.
To The Summit
All board members, Partner City groups, volunteers, and friends of the partnership from both Wisconsin and Nicaragua are invited to participate in the
W/NP Summit Seminar scheduled to take place from October 20 to 22 in Managua, Nicaragua. This is the perfect opportunity to renew existing friendships and establish new ones,
strengthen the organization, develop new networks and activities, and build a better understanding of our partner country and its people. In addition to the bilingual
Summit Seminar, various pre- and post-seminar activities will be taking place throughout the country. Translators will be available during your time in Nicaragua.
The sooner you make up your mind, the sooner we'll be able to purchase your ticket. We guarantee that you will have a great experience, witnessing fabulous sights, markets, small family businesses, traditional dancing, smoking volcanoes, monkeys, and singing musicians. You will also see project activities, growing gardens, doll dress workshops, water projects, and more to come home renewed as a world volunteer.
In Search Of The Rainbow Seekers
Do you ever search the internet? If so, here is an easy way to help raise funds for our projects in Nicaragua. Instead of going to Google, try
GoodSearch, enter 'WNP' into the "I'm supporting" box at the bottom of the page, and proceed with your search. Each time you search, approximately one cent will be donated to W/NP. Within a week of one person sharing this information with their home address book, searches had generated $3.34 for W/NP. It may not seem like much, but if enough people use
GoodSearch, it will be a great, and painless, fundraiser.
Border Drive-In Theatre
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the
Semi-Annual Fund Drive. We have raised nearly $10,000 thus far and hope to double that amount with your continued support. For every dollar donated to W/NP in 2005, we multiplied it by eight in recorded goods and services. Please take a moment to
Make A Donation.
