ANNUAL FUND DRIVE
w/np > involvement

*Congratualations* we did it, and thanks to everyone invovled in the Annual Fund Drive. We have raised the $40,000!

Much planning has gone on in the past months for the upcomming year 2007, culminating in the Nicaraguan Summit 2006 held in Managua, Nicaragua throughout the weekend of October 20th. More than 150 people, including 34 Wisconsinites, discussed prior successes and planned future activities concerned with community development, Learning Centers, scholarships, governance shipping, etc. Excitement filled the air as Nicaraguan and Wisconsin volunteers enthusiastically worked together, unifying goals and objectives.

Plans for 2007 · Both enthusiasm and involvement were evident as people presented their joint planning results.

As one Wisconsinite wrote:

The dedication of staff and volunteers in this organization never ceases to amaze me how people comming from all over Wisconsin and Nicaragua, via many modes of tranportation, can all converge in one location and roll up sleeves and work together: From my perspective, all this went on with very few problems. I loved watching the bonding and exchange of ideas and goals taking place between Partners volunteers.
It was so amazing how people "communicated" - pulling in translators, drawing pictures, of just challenging themselves to speak Spanish or English. Language was not a barrier; cultural differences were not barriers; the only barrier was the time we had to accomplish everything we wanted to.

Making friends for America. Comments by a Nicaraguan volunteer where that, "he was always skeptical of Americans until he became involved in Partners and found out that Americans truly care and are hard working volunteers concerened about other countries. He was awe of the people-to-people emphasis and pledged his support in future."

The Multiplier Effect. W/NP leveraged over $1.8 million of donated good and services during 2005 with a financial budget of $225,873. That means for every dollar contributed, W/NP provided more than $8 dollars of services, programs, and projects.

Success in Partnering
w/np > examples

The overriding success of the Partnership is bringing people of both cultures together. A rural Nicaraguan women whose family was living on a meager income two years ago, now has become an outstanding member of her community as she actively participates in projects because of support from the Master Gardeners in Wisconsin. Her gardening/composting project has taken root, and income, appreciation, and commitment give her the confidence to feel her input as valued.

Fireman from Wisconsin and Nicaragua share training and comradeship because of the "FireFighters United" activities that involve both cultures. Juan Vallecillo, Esteli Fire Chief who received training in Central Wisconsin - I will take this experience and what I've learned and share it with my colleagues. Firefighters are a family. We've come here and didn't know anyone, but everyone we've met has lent us their warmth.

W/NP has opportunities for people of all ages to work together, from youth to adult.
