CULTURAL DIVERSITY
Fostering cross-cultural understanding is one of the major underlying goals of W/NP. We are indeed fortunate to be a part of one of the greatest multicultural organizations of the western hemisphere, Partners of the Americas, Inc., whose primary focus is promoting international goodwill and understanding. W/NP became a charter member of POA in 1965. The uniqueness of W/NP is the harness of volunteer power and the provision of a bridge for technical and cultural exchange. The people-to-people concept works because each side understands the task to be done and that respect for their fellow person is an important component to success. Through these efforts, people from both cultures build a better world for their children and future generations.

Speakers' Bureau
Funding was received for development of the W/NP Speakers; Bureau. Equipment, talking points, and infrastructure training that support a statewide network of presenters help tell the W/NP partnership activities story. Speakers are available for civic group, organizational meetings, or events presentations.

Travel Tours
Sixty-three people traveled under the W/NP umbrella during the year 2003, with the majority providing their own funding. Wisconsin travelers found a rich culture and friendly people in Nicaragua. Many travelers have vowed to return to Nicaragua in the near future and to share the experience with others. Similarly, our seven Nicaraguan guests have vowed to tell their families, friends, and neighbors about the special character of the people from Wisconsin and the love expressed by people in the United States.

Photo Exhibit
The Photo Exhibit, "Behind the Mask: The Spirit of a People," facilitates awareness of Wisconsin's partner country Nicaragua and continues to wind its way throughout the state of Wisconsin.

Video/PSA Outreach
Three videos produced for W/NP by the UWSP Communications Department and the Greater Wisconsin Chapter Media Communications Association are now available for use by volunteers throughout the state. Available are an eleven minute video called "Creating a World of Understanding," a thirty minute video to music and scenes of Nicaragua, and a Learning Center Tour video. Footage shot by a videographer is featured in public service announcements to be used by commercial and public television stations.
