Submission: Joanne Bessette

While recently talking to Juan Carlos Ortega, Boaco Committee President, I mentioned that I had a very functional gas stove that could be modified to use Propane gas. I asked if there might be a use for this in Boaco. Right away, he mentioned a day care center run by the Catholic Sisters. In addition to providing day care, they also take in abused children and children in poor health that have not had a proper diet. Since these children are provided a noon meal, the Sisters could use this gas stove to help in preparing this meal. Also, the day care is supported by the Catholic Church, which could pay for the needed propane.

My husband and I made the necessary modifications to the stove, disconnected it from the city gas pipes, and took it apart. We then cleaned and painted all exposed areas that were not covered by enamel with a heat resistant paint so that it wouldn't rust. It is all ready for the city workers of Clintonville to move it from our basement to the W/NP warehouse where it will be packed and shipped to Boaco. I am confident that it will be well used to feed children up to the age five.
