The scene at Volk Field Air National Guard Base, Camp Douglas, on Monday, August 18 will be one of activity and goodwill. U.S. Army Reserve personnel, who have been training at Camp McCoy, will be loading two ambulances aboard a C-100 cargo plane bound for Managua, Nicaragua.

Volk Field, which serves as a staging area for some of the U.S. military's largest aircraft, will be the location for a collaborative effort between Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners of the Americas, Inc., who will be facilitating the donation of the ambulances, and the Denton Shipping Program.

W/NP is a non-profit organization based out of Stevens Point that works toward improving the lives of people in Wisconsin and Nicaragua through various humanitarian, training, and cultural programs. The Denton Shipping Program provides an outlet for military training exercises whereby U.S. military personnel are given the opportunity to prepare and load aircraft using humanitarian equipment and supplies as cargo.

Additional donations given to W/NP still awaiting shipment to Nicaragua are: a four-wheel drive brush fire truck, a tractor, a baler, a cultivating disc, and hospital, school, sports, and sewing equipment and supplies.

Wisconsin/Nicaragua Partners of the Americas, Inc. has been an avenue of people-to-people exchange in the areas of agriculture, natural resources, health, women in development, education, culture, and humanitarian assistance for 38 years.
