"So little can do so much; you can save a child's life for under six cents per year," says Bill Davidson about the Vitamin A Project.

UNICEF reports that 760,000 Nicaraguan children under the age of nine suffer from vitamin A deficiency. It is estimated that a 20 to 25 percent reduction in infant and child deaths can be achieved through vitamin A intervention alone. Thanks to Lions Clubs International, MINSA, and W/NP, a total of 326,000 capsules of 200,000 UI and 78,000 capsules of 100,000 UI were distributed in coordination with the Ministry of Health to 400,000 children throughout Nicaragua. Children up to twelve months receive 100,000 units twice a year while children from twelve months through sixty months receive 200,000 units twice a year. The Vitamin A Project has been in effect for over six years providing successful, long-term treatment. The sustainability of the Vitamin A Project has saved many lives and assures lasting benefits for children in Nicaragua.

The Ministry of Health, the parents, and the doctors wish to thank everyone "for all that you have done in preventing sickness, death, and blindness in our children of Nicaragua. The volunteers of the Vitamin A Project are angels of happiness."
